Nellie is our 2023 NuCamp TAB 400 Boondock trailer. She is our home away from home and the whole reason we fell in love with camping.
Our Story
Why We Started Camping in a Teardrop
My name is Marianne, and together with my husband John and our two youngest children, we have been travelling in our trailer since 2023.
Yes. We may be newbies, but we have learned a lot FAST!
So how did we end up with a Teardrop Trailer? It’s actually a pretty funny story!
A few years ago our family did an epic road trip across the east coast of Canada. At the time, we were mixing hotel stays with tent camping.
A few weeks into the trip, we ended up in Terra Nova National Park in Newfoundland. Just as we pulled into our campsite, it started to torrential downpour.
After waiting for almost an hour in the car, it was getting late and the light was going fast. So John jumped out of the car to put up our tent.
Of course, by the time we had everything somewhat set up, we were cold, wet, and the inside of the tent was wet. Worst of all, we had no way to heat up our dinner, or even make a cup of tea.
The next morning, we spent a couple of hours trying to sop up the wet mess, clean the pine needles out of our tent, and make breakfast. Although it was now sunny outside, everything was wet, and the kids were cranky.
Our neighbours in the next site were in a Sprinter Van. We watched as they opened their door, and the woman stepped outside with her phone and her coffee.
She sat down on the picnic table to enjoy the fresh air. Meanwhile, her Hubby was inside, making breakfast. I could hear the bacon sizzling!
After a leisurely breakfast inside, they cleaned up and drove off, seemingly without a care in the world.
I, on the other hand, was still trying to clean up the mess from the night before. It was then that I vowed, NO MORE TENTING!
A few short months later, we were the proud owners of our Teardrop Trailer.
I have no regrets.
I am now the one watching people schlepp their tents out, while I sip my coffee in peace and luxury. And I couldn’t be happier!
