10 Campfire S’mores Recipes You’ll Wish You Tried Sooner
In my opinion, having amazing meals while camping is almost as important as having a great campsite (at least for our family).
And what follows a great meal? A yummy dessert, of course!!
S’mores are the quintessential campfire dessert.
S’mores are ooey gooey melty yumminess that most people equate with sitting at a campfire.
And the fact that they are made with minimal ingredients that many people already have in their pantries is just a bonus.
We have put together a few of our favourite variations of this classic campfire dessert.
Which campfire s’mores recipe will become your new favourite??
S’mores Basics
Before we jump into some of my favourite s’more variations, let’s talk about just the basics.
If, for some reason, you have no idea what a classic s’more is, let me enlighten you.

A classic s’more is made with a graham cracker that is topped with a piece of milk chocolate.
You then add a gooey melted marshmallow (preferably roasted over a campfire), and top it off with another graham cracker.
And VOILA! The perfect campfire treat.

Easy peasy, and just the perfect amount of messy!
This is definitely my family’s favourite and go-to camping dessert.
And if you are wondering about how to roast the marshmallows safely over the campfire, we have retractable marshmallow roasting sticks that are easy to use, store, and clean after use.
Best Campfire S’mores Recipes
1. No-Mess Campfire S’mores
Swap out the graham crackers for crunchy waffle cones. This no-mess recipe is perfect for making with young kids.
The s’mores are ready in a snap, and there is no need for little fingers to get close to the campfire!

Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Waffle cones (sugar cones would also work)
- Mini marshmallows
- Grated or roughly chopped milk chocolate

Directions
Fill your ice cream cone with grated or roughly chopped chocolate pieces and mini marshmallows. Carefully wrap the cone completely with aluminum foil.
Place your wrapped cones on a grill over smouldering coals, or on a gas barbecue set to low. Heat until the chocolate and marshmallows melt—usually just a few minutes.
Do not leave the cones on for too long, as your marshmallows will completely dissolve.
🍫 Pro Tip – While chocolate chips may seem like an easy hack for this recipe, they don’t melt! Any grated chocolate bar will work much better (Trust me – we tried!)

2. S’moreos
This recipe uses Oreo cookies as the base for your sweet treat.
And the best part is, you can swap in any flavour of Oreo cookie. So, Birthday Cake for a special day, or Pumpkin Spice for that perfect fall campfire treat.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Oreo cookies (any flavour)
- Large marshmallows
- Chocolate

Directions
Toast your marshmallow, twist open an Oreo cookie, and place the marshmallow on the half with the cream.
Add your chocolate bar and seal the sandwich together with the second cookie.
Voila! An extra creamy marshmallowy treat!
3. Lemon Meringue Pie S’mores
If you love lemon meringue pie, then you will definitely want to give this s’mores recipe a try.
The Graham crackers, lemon filling and toasted marshmallow combine to mimic the flavours of a lemon meringue pie almost exactly.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Graham Crackers
- Large marshmallows
- Lemon Curd (store-bought or homemade)

Directions
To make this recipe, spread about a teaspoon of lemon curd on your Graham crackers.
Next, toast your marshmallows. Place on top of your lemon curd-covered Graham cracker.
You can either devour your treat like this or cover it with a second Graham cracker.
Either way, they are completely delicious and tangy!
4. Chocolate Mint S’mores
If you are a fan of the combination of chocolate and mint, then you will love this s’more recipe!
Full of yummy chocolate goodness and a fresh mint flavour, this treat is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Graham Crackers
- Marshmallows
- Mint Chocolate Bar (we used Aero, but you can use Thin Mints or After Eights)
- OR You can substitute chocolate-mint Oreo cookies for the Graham Crackers and Mint Thins

Directions
If you are using graham crackers, first toast your marshmallow, then place it on one of the graham crackers.
Add your chocolate bar/thin mint, and top the sandwich with a second graham cracker.
But if you are using Oreo cookies, simply twist the Oreo open (cream side up), toast your marshmallow, and top the treat off with the second plain part of the cookie.
5. Gooey Caramel S’mores
Swap out the graham crackers for yummy Celebration cookies.
These cookies are coated with chocolate and filled with thick caramel sauce, removing the need to have chocolate as a separate ingredient.

Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Celebration Caramel cookies (or any caramel-filled cookie)
- Marshmallows

Directions
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on top of one cookie.
Sandwich together with the second cookie.
This sweet treat is something you won’t want to miss out on!
6. Chocolate Chip Cookie S’morewich
This recipe is perfect for smaller fingers since the chocolate chip cookies are bigger and a lot easier to hold.
Make this as chocolaty as you want by subbing in chocolate chunk cookies or adding extra chocolate pieces to the sandwich.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Large marshmallows
- Chocolate (optional)

Directions
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on your favourite chocolate chip cookies.
Add a piece of chocolate (if using) on top of the marshmallow, and cover with a second chocolate chip cookie.
The chocolate chip cookies add just the right amount of chocolate flavour, even without the addition of chocolate pieces, making these s’mores even easier to manage for younger kids.
7. Nutella & Banana S’mores
A favourite flavour combo for my youngest, we decided to turn Nutella and bananas into a s’more!
We purposely use a ripe banana for a softer and sweeter flavour that works perfectly for this dessert.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Graham Crackers
- Large marshmallows
- Nutella spread
- Small banana, cut into slices

Directions
Spread Nutella (or your favourite hazelnut chocolate spread) onto the graham crackers.
Top with slices of banana.
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on top of the banana slices. Lastly, sandwich together with a second graham cracker.
Deeelish!
8. Banoffee s’mores
The addition of caramel sauce makes this s’more recipe a little messier, but oh so good!
The combination of bananas and caramel is a favourite of mine, so bringing it to the campfire was a no-brainer!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Graham Crackers
- Large marshmallows
- Small banana, cut into slices
- Caramel sauce
Directions
Top graham crackers with thin slices of banana.
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on top of the banana slices.
Drizzle some caramel sauce over the toasted marshmallow.
Top everything off with a second graham cracker.
9. Peanut Butter Cup S’mores
Who does not like a good peanut butter cup??
And since Hubby could devour a huge package all on his own, I decided, why not bring those flavours to the campfire??
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Graham Crackers
- Large marshmallows
- Peanut Butter Cups

Directions
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on top of a graham cracker.
Add your peanut butter cup (be sure to remove the wrapper!) and cover with a second graham cracker.
The melty marshmallow works so well with the smooth chocolate and peanut butter that this has become a family favourite for us.
10. Cookie Butter S’mores
I love the flavour of cookie butter, so this recipe definitely knocked it out of the park (or should I say campground??) for me.
That sweet but subtle spicy flavour of the speculoos definitely elevates the classic s’more into an awesome campfire dessert.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this s’mores recipe:
- Biscoff Cookies (speculoos)
- Large marshmallows
- Dash of cinnamon (optional)
Directions
Biscoff cookies are what cookie butter is made from. They have that amazing flavour, with a little less mess.
Toast your marshmallow, then place it on one Biscoff cookie. Add a dash of cinnamon before covering with a second Biscoff cookie.
A variation of this recipe would be to use actual Biscoff cookie butter. You would spread this over graham crackers, top with a toasted marshmallow (don’t forget that dash of cinnamon!) and top with a second graham cracker.
Both variations are to die for!
How to Set Up a S’morgasboard (S’more Charcuterie Board)
A S’morgasboard, or s’mores charcuterie board, is exactly what you think it is.
It’s a charcuterie board made up of a smorgasbord (see what I did there??) of ingredients to create your own s’mores.
Setting up a s’morgasboard is easy and fun.
Start by choosing a large wooden cutting board, tray, or platter.

Group your ingredients by type—put all the graham crackers on one side, marshmallows in the middle, and chocolates on the other.
You can also choose to mix in some variety with a selection of cookies, different marshmallow flavours (we add maple marshmallows to ours) or sizes, and assorted chocolates like peanut butter cups, mint chocolate bars, or caramel squares.
Next, add extras like fresh fruit, pretzels, or sauces for more options. We added lemon curd to our board in the above photo.

The trick is to keep everything bite-sized and easy to grab.
If you’re serving a crowd, use small bowls or ramekins to hold anything that might melt or stick.
Set it up near your campfire (just not too close, as your chocolate will melt) and let everyone build their own sweet combo.
Final Thoughts
While campfire s’mores are perfect just the way they are, we would suggest being open to some variations.
With just a few swaps, you can turn this classic treat into something new and delicious.
Try a few of these recipes on your next trip and find a new family favourite. You won’t be disappointed!
