Does a Teardrop Trailer with Bathroom Really Exist?

Are you in the market for a Teardrop Trailer? Is having a bathroom in your trailer a must-have? We have got you covered!

One of the must-haves on my list when John and I were looking to purchase our trailer, was a bathroom.

We knew we wanted a small Teardrop trailer, but we didn’t want to compromise on having all the luxuries of home, which of course, included a toilet!

In fact, when we went to the Trailer Show in our area, the first thing I did was look at the bathroom. If there wasn’t one, or it wasn’t very nice, we immediately moved on.

So, the answer to the question is YES! Some Teardrop Trailers do come with bathrooms. However, the size and types of washrooms can really vary.

Do Teardrop Trailers Have Bathrooms?

The answer is yes and no! It really depends on the model. Let me give you a little bit of background.

Teardrop trailers are primarily known for their distinctive shape, compact size, and efficient design. These trailers are typically under 3,500 pounds with a single axle.

Teardrops are designed for those who love the great outdoors, need a cozy place to crash after a day of adventure, but aren’t interested in large RVs or motorhomes.

Traditional teardrop trailers usually just focus on simplicity and efficiency. They offer snug sleeping quarters and a rear hatch that reveals a compact galley kitchen.

While they might include a small sink, cook stove, and space for cooling or storing food, some even boasting features like a battery-operated electrical system or solar panels, a built-in bathroom is usually not on the list.

However, the world of teardrop trailers isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Today, you will find Teardrop Trailers that straddle the line between traditional teardrops and small travel trailers.

These trailers are slightly larger, offering more in terms of space and amenities. They might include a dinette, extra seating, and a separate sleeping area, with a bit more elbow room in the kitchen.

It is in this category, that you will find Teardrop Trailers with bathrooms. However, even at this size, bathrooms are not a given.

What Advantages Are There for a Teardrop Trailer with a Bathroom?

As I mentioned earlier, having a bathroom in our Teardrop was non-negotiable for me.

After years of tent camping and using nasty vault toilets and some sub-par comfort stations, I really wanted the luxury of my own toilet.

But if you need a little more convincing, here are some reasons why I decided that I needed a bathroom in my Teardrop:

Enhanced Privacy and Comfort

Having a bathroom inside your teardrop trailer means you won’t have to venture out to campsite restrooms.

When nature calls, especially in the middle of the night or during inclement weather, you have peace of mind knowing that you will stay warm and dry in your own bathroom.

Not to mention, you won’t have to worry about bears when venturing out at night!

Convenience at Any Time

Whether you’re parked at a campsite or on the go, having an onboard bathroom means you have access to toilet facilities 24/7.

This is particularly handy when travelling to remote areas, when you’re boondocking (camping without hookups), or when you are travelling with kids!

I can’t even count how many times we have had to pull over because one of the kids was dancing in the back seat!

Increased Self-Sufficiency

With a bathroom in your teardrop trailer, you’re less dependent on campsite amenities.

This means that I am less focused on being close to a comfort station when I am choosing our campsites.

We can now opt for a more secluded campsite because we don’t have to worry about how far we need to walk to find a bathroom.

Better Hygiene Control

Using your own bathroom is generally cleaner and more sanitary than using public or shared facilities.

And considering I am moderately germophobic, I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to have my own facilities.

I no longer have to worry about exposure to germs and bacteria, or even creepy crawlies, when taking a shower or using the toilet while camping.

Adds Value to the Trailer

While a bathroom-equipped teardrop trailer might be more of an investment upfront, it can increase the resale value of your trailer.

Potential buyers may see the bathroom as a desirable feature, making your trailer more appealing in the market.

Extended Camping Season

Depending on where you live, having a bathroom can make camping more comfortable in colder months when outdoor facilities might be less appealing.

This is not necessarily the case for us. Living in Ontario, we would still need to winterize our trailer to prevent the pipes from freezing.

And while there are still ways we could use our bathroom without water, it isn’t really something that appeals to me.

What Kind of Bathroom Amenities Are Typically Found in Teardrop Trailer Models?

When you have a trailer as small as a teardrop, you just know that the bathroom amenities, the space and facilities are designed to be as compact and efficient as possible.

Here’s what bathroom amenities you will typically find in teardrop trailer models that offer this feature:

Wet Bath

Many teardrop trailers with bathrooms utilize a “wet bath” setup, where the shower and toilet share the same space.

This design saves space and maximizes functionality. The entire bathroom serves as a shower stall, with a waterproof setup and a floor drain.

This is what we have with our TAB 400. And while it takes a little practice to get used to it, I am quite satisfied with my bathroom facility!

Toilet

The toilet in a teardrop trailer is typically a cassette toilet, a portable toilet, or a marine-style flush toilet attached to a black tank.

Some higher-end models might offer a composting toilet, which is eco-friendly and ideal for off-grid camping, as it doesn’t require a water hookup.

We have a flush toilet connected to a 12-gallon black water tank.

Shower

The shower in a teardrop trailer’s wet bath is usually a handheld nozzle that can be mounted on a wall bracket.

This allows for a sit-down or stand-up shower, depending on the space available.

The water heater in the trailer provides hot water for showers.

While we don’t always use our shower, it is definitely a nice thing to have. Of course, we also needed to learn how to take “army showers” in order to conserve water and grey tank space.

Sink

Some teardrop trailer bathrooms might include a small sink that is completely separate.

This is what our Teardrop has. While it does take up a little bit of space, it makes our bathroom feel more like a real bathroom.

Teardrop Bathroom Sink

Other models of teardrop trailers often have a sink built into the top of the toilet in an effort to conserve space.

I have also seen sinks that are separate, and flip up when not in use.

While none of the sink types are large, they are definitely more than enough to wash up and brush your teeth.

Ventilation

Proper ventilation is really, REALLY important in a small bathroom space to prevent mould and mildew.

Many teardrop trailers with bathrooms include a small window, a vent, or a fan to help manage moisture and odours.

Teardrop Bathroom Exhaust Fan

We have a fan in our bathroom that really helps. However, when we are showering with the fan on, we also tend to get “shrink-wrapped” with the shower curtain.

Small price to pay I guess!

Storage

We all know how important storage space is. And what I love about our teardrop trailer, is the efficient use of space.

Even our bathroom storage, while minimal, is thoughtfully designed.

Teardrop Bathroom Storage

We have two small shelves that are perfect for storing all of our toiletries and bathroom essentials.

Other Teardrops that we have seen include either small cabinets, shelves, or pockets to store toiletries.

The Best Teardrop Trailers with Bathroom

When considering the best teardrop trailers with bathrooms, it’s important for you to realize that options can vary widely in terms of features, quality, and price.

We would definitely recommend that you do your homework and actually check out the trailers in person, before deciding what works best for your family.

Here are five popular teardrop trailers that have awesome designs, amenities, and of course, bathrooms:

1. nuCamp TAB 400 Teardrop Camper

This teardrop trailer by nuCamp RV is larger than traditional teardrops.

It offers a fully-equipped kitchen, a comfortable dining area that converts to bunk bed, and a dedicated queen-size bed.

The TAB 400 also features a pretty spacious wet bath with a toilet and shower.

As I mentioned earlier, this is the teardrop that we have. And what initially drew me to this trailer (aside from its unique style) was the awesome bathroom!

We love it!

2. nuCamp TAB 320 Teardrop Camper

The TAB 320 teardrop trailer offers a dinette area that converts into a bed, a compact kitchen, and an efficient wet bath setup.

The trailer is smaller than the TAB 400, so the bathroom is also smaller. The 320 has a toilet with a shower, and the sink is built into the toilet.

3. Little Guy Max

The Little Guy Max is also slightly larger than a traditional teardrop.

The trailer boasts a spacious interior with a queen-size bed, a dinette that converts into a second sleeping area, a full kitchen, and a wet bath with a shower and toilet.

Something I didn’t like about this trailer’s bathroom, is that there is no sink!

4. Bushwhacker Plus

The Bushwhacker Plus teardrop trailer features a comfortable sleeping area, a convertible dinette, a compact kitchenette, and a convenient wet bath with a shower and toilet.

This model Teardrop also does not have a sink in the bathroom.

5. Xplorer 135x

The Xplorer 135X teardrop trailer is more like a boxy teardrop shape!

It comes equipped with a dinette, a queen-sized bed, a kitchenette for your cooking needs, and a compact dry bath with a toilet and separate shower (in the same room).

Again, this model does not have a sink in the bathroom. However, at least you can wash your hands in the shower!

Teardrop Camper Bathrooms – Final Thoughts
