The nuCamp Haven 220 – Is This Our Next Trailer?

After weeks of teasers and hints, nuCamp finally unveiled its newest trailer model, the Haven 220.

As someone who already camps with a nuCamp trailer, this one immediately caught our attention.

The Haven is definitely a departure from their classic teardrop style, leaning more into the world of small travel trailers.

This camper promises more space, more comfort, and top-notch features that people have come to expect from a nuCamp.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the details — what it is, what stands out, and what to think about if you’re curious about this new release.

So the question is, will this be our next trailer??

What is the nuCamp Haven?

The Haven joins nuCamp’s 2026 lineup as something completely new.

It is not a teardrop or a truck camper. It is a small RV in a category all its own.

Built in Sugarcreek, Ohio, in Amish country, the Haven continues nuCamp’s tradition of hand-built craftsmanship.

That means attention to detail, clean finishes, and quality systems inside and out. Exactly what we have come to expect from nuCamp trailers.

For floor plans, nuCamp is starting with a queen bed option, with a twin-bed layout planned for later.

The name “Haven” fits. The company is clearly positioning this trailer as a step toward comfort and home-like features.

Specs and Features

Here’s what we know about the Haven’s numbers and setup so far:

  • Exterior width: 8’2″
  • Overall height: 9’9″
  • Interior height: 6’10″ (enough to stand fully upright)
  • Sleeping areas: 60″ x 75″ walk-around queen bed, plus a convertible 36″ x 71″ space from the dinette
  • Dry weight: 3,933 lbs (before cargo, propane, or water)
  • GAWR: 5,000 lbs
  • Fresh water tank: 35 gallons
  • Gray water tank: 35 gallons
  • Black water tank: 25 gallons
  • Kitchen: 2-burner glass-top stove, microwave, deep sink with a high-arch faucet
  • Refrigerator: 4.6 cu ft, 12V compressor
  • Bathroom: Full dry bath with shower, sink, and toilet

What We Love About This Trailer

The following are a few of Haven’s features that really caught our attention:

  • Dry Bath – This is a big step for nuCamp. Most of their smaller models use wet baths, but the Haven’s dry bath offers a more traditional setup. No more showering over the toilet.
  • Walk-Around Queen Bed – A big upgrade in usability. No climbing over your partner in the middle of the night, or struggling to put fresh sheets on the bed.
  • Higher Capacity Tanks – With 35 gallons each for fresh and grey water, plus a 25-gallon black tank, the Haven is designed for longer trips without constant dumping or refilling.
  • Headroom – At 6’10”, the interior feels open and comfortable. Taller campers will appreciate being able to stand upright.
  • Premium Systems – The Alde hydronic heating system and Truma A/C are reliable, quiet, and efficient. These are not entry-level components.
  • Off-Grid Ready – With lithium battery and solar options, plus a 1,200W inverter, the Haven can easily support boondocking.
  • Storage Solutions – Pass-through storage and thoughtful cabinetry provide space for gear, something many teardrops struggle with.

What Tow Vehicle Do You Need with a Haven?

This is where many teardrop owners may have issues if they would like to upgrade to the Haven.

The Haven is not a lightweight teardrop. At nearly 4,000 lbs dry, it requires a capable tow vehicle.

By the time you add water, propane, and camping gear, you’re realistically looking at closer to 4,700–5,000 lbs on the road.

That means smaller SUVs, crossovers, and even many Hybrids are out.

To safely tow this trailer, you’ll need a mid-size or full-size SUV, or a pickup with a towing capacity of at least 6,000 lbs.

Weight distribution hitches and sway control systems will also be important for highway stability.

Lastly, the extra width (8’2″) and height (almost 10′) also limit campsite options.

In this instance, we would be fully prepared to move up to a larger trailer, as our Toyota Tundra would be able to handle it easily.

What Practical Considerations Are There with Owning a Haven?

A few of the biggest considerations we would have to moving up to the Haven are needing larger campsites, storage, and availability.

Just like our teardrop, the Haven will fit in most private RV parks.

This is because many of them are designed for larger units, and our teardrop “Nellie” always looks tiny while sitting in one!

On the other hand, where a teardrop can fit into pretty much every RV site in provincial or state campgrounds, the Haven will not.

The second consideration for us would be storage.

While we do not store our teardrop at home, Nellie often sits on our driveway for a few days at a time.

We would not be able to fit the Haven plus a car in our driveway.

And for those of you who can just squeak your teardrop into your garage, you’ll definitely need alternate indoor storage with higher clearance.

Lastly, if you are looking to purchase a trailer for the next camping season, you are out of luck with the Haven.

According to nuCamp, the trailers won’t be available for pick-up until November 2026.

Who is the Haven best suited for?

The good news is, the Haven will appeal to many people.

  • Couples or small families who want a step up from teardrops but don’t want the bulk of a 30-foot trailer.
  • Campers who take long trips and value bigger tanks and added comfort.
  • Travellers who boondock or go off-grid, with the solar and lithium setup making it easier to stay out longer.
  • Campers who prioritize comfort over nimbleness and don’t mind towing a heavier unit.
  • People who are new to RVing and want something that feels approachable but still comfortable and well-built.

On the flip side, there are some people who might struggle with the Haven.

  • Campers with smaller tow vehicles who may not be in a position to also upgrade their vehicles.
  • People who prefer rustic or smaller campsites where a wide trailer won’t fit.
  • Those who value simplicity. More systems mean more maintenance and potential repairs.

Risk Factors and Unknowns

Like any brand-new model, the Haven comes with a few things to keep in mind:

  • Pricing. Teardrop trailers are already expensive. So you can expect the Haven’s price tag to be higher than the TAB line.
  • Resale value. As a new model, there’s no track record yet. We don’t know how it will hold value compared to the proven TAB series.
  • Durability. nuCamp has a solid reputation, but it’s always a question of how a brand-new design holds up over years of use.
  • First-generation model. Buying the first version of any RV comes with unknowns. Early models sometimes have issues that get improved in later production runs.
  • Campground access. Bigger dimensions will mean fewer options when booking at your favourite campground.

Pros and Cons – Our Two Cents

So, the question remains, will the Haven be our next trailer?

To be honest, we really aren’t ready to trade in our teardrop just yet.

When we first learned about the Haven, this trailer was something we considered for our “five-year plan.”

But after seeing the trailer in person, and having a chance to actually sit in it, I can honestly say that I was pretty underwhelmed.

The following is the list of pros and cons that I have come up with.

Keep in mind that we already own a nuCamp 2023 TAB 400. So we are not new to RVing, nor are we new to this company’s trailers.

Pros

There were quite a few things that I loved about the Haven.

  • LOVED the walk-around queen bed.
  • LOVED the dry bath with the separate shower area and more storage.
  • LOVED all the windows for natural light.
  • The toilet is straight and not tucked into the corner on an angle like in our TAB.
  • Larger dinette that actually seats four adults.
  • More counter space in the kitchen with a flip-up counter.
  • More storage everywhere.
  • Larger fan in the main cabin.
  • Room to move around if more than one person is in the trailer at the same time.
  • The powered awning that I was told retracts on its own during high winds.
  • Outside pass-through storage.
  • Powered tongue jack.
  • Included backup camera.
  • A screen door that is solid rather than the flimsy slide-open screen in the TAB.

Cons

And now for the things that were not so great. Some items on this list are deal-breakers, while others are just small annoyances.

  • First and foremost, the PRICE! The MSRP is listed between $81,000 and $90,000 USD. As someone who will be paying in Canadian dollars, that is a good chunk of change for a small trailer. Yes, the quality is there, but still…
  • My biggest disappointment when it came to the aesthetics is that the inside of the main cabin looks like a white box. The back wall is all white, giving the camper a very sterile look rather than feeling homey.
  • Small TV for the size of the camper (and it’s NOT a smart TV). Not that we use our television much while camping, but it still would be nice to have the appropriate size and the upgraded tech.
  • The microwave is way too high up to be safe for most people. I am 5’7″ and CAN’T see into it! Pulling a cup a hot water out of the microwave while reaching over my head (and face) does not sound like fun.
  • The fridge is on the floor. I do not like to kneel on my cranky knees to get into my fridge. The fridge in our TAB is at eye level which is fantastic.
  • Missed opportunity to include an oven. Not only does the Cirrus 920 truck camper have one (similar MSRP by the way), but so do many other brands of similar-sized campers.
  • Open storage under the bed and in the kitchen and bathroom. After a bumpy drive along campground roads, the inside of our camper is going to look like a yard sale! I would prefer drawers or cabinets under the bed and in the kitchen.
  • Enclosed storage under the center of the bed. While it’s nice to have, lifting the entire bed up to reach what’s underneath is not ideal. Yes, there are struts to help, but since only a small part of the platform actually lifts up, it would make a mess of my neatly tucked sheets and blankets.
  • While the dinette converts to a second sleeping area, I am doubtful that two adults could sleep there comfortably, or even fully stretch out. Two children would fit fine.
  • There is a missed opportunity to have a portal window in the shower (or a skylight) for natural light.
  • No built-in battery level indicator.
  • Single axel. Most trailers this size have a double axle, which helps with stability and weight distribution.

Final Thoughts

The nuCamp Haven represents an interesting shift for the company.

The trailer is still small enough to feel manageable, but it adds the kind of comfort and features that many campers start wishing for after a few seasons in smaller rigs.

With its dry bath, walk-around bed, bigger tanks, and off-grid options, it’s clear nuCamp is aiming to attract campers who want the next level of comfort.

But at the same time, the Haven asks for more — more tow vehicle, more storage space, and definitely more budget.

For us, the big question is whether those trade-offs are worth the added comfort.
