Omnia Oven Review – How It Works and Why I Love It
If you’ve spent any time camping in a teardrop, small trailer or van, you know space is everything.
That’s what first got me interested in the Omnia Oven. It promised real oven-style cooking on just a stovetop or camp stove.
After hearing other campers rave about it, I finally decided to give it a try.
And guess what? After a few tries, I really began to LOVE this gadget!
Here’s everything I’ve learned about how it works, what it can (and can’t) do, and whether it’s worth adding to your setup.
What Is the Omnia Oven?
The Omnia Oven is a small, portable stovetop oven that lets you bake, roast, and reheat food while camping.
It doesn’t plug in or need propane hookups. Instead, it sits right on top of a gas burner.
The oven has three parts:
- A stainless steel base that sits directly on the burner.
- A circular aluminum baking pan with a hole in the center.
- A lid that traps and circulates heat, working like a convection oven.

The Omnia is very lightweight, simple to assemble, and easy to store in small spaces.
This makes it absolutely ideal for my teardrop trailer, as well as vans and other small RVs.
Best of all, you can purchase the Omnia on its own or in a starter kit that includes the silicone liner, baking rack, and storage bag.
What Does the Omnia Oven Come With?
When you buy the Omnia Oven, you get three main parts:
- The base, which sits directly on your stovetop burner.
- The baking pan, where your food goes.
- The lid, which traps heat and helps it cook evenly.
Those pieces make up the basic setup and work quite well.

You can also buy optional accessories that make a big difference, like the silicone liner for easy cleanup, a baking rack for steaming or reheating, and a carrying case to keep everything together in your trailer.
Some bundles include the above extras, which is definitely something to consider.
Oh, and before I forget to mention, the basic Omnia Oven comes in red. Just in case this matters to you!
How Does the Omnia Oven Work?
The way that the Omnia Oven works is pretty simple.
When the burner heats the base, the hot air moves up through the center hole and circulates around the pan.
This creates an even baking environment that mimics a small oven.
You can use it on most gas stoves, portable propane burners, or even marine cooktops.

Just avoid induction cooktops, as the base doesn’t work with those.
Just like with a regular oven, the Omnia does take a few minutes to preheat.
But once it’s ready, you can bake almost anything you’d normally cook in a home oven, just in smaller portions.
Is the Omnia Good for Camping?
The Omnia is great for camping!
Because it is light, doesn’t take up much space, and doesn’t need power, it works out really well for our camping style.
That’s a big deal when you’re camping off-grid or trying to save battery power. It even works well if you are camping in a tent!

I also love just how versatile the Omnia Oven is.
You can bake muffins in the morning, heat up leftovers for lunch, and make a casserole or lasagna for dinner.
Can you believe I even made these incredible Brown Butter Sage Buns for our Thanksgiving Dinner in Algonquin Park??
Awesome right??
How Do You Use the Omnia Oven?
Using the Omnia Oven is straightforward once you get the hang of heat control.
I learned quickly that cooking most things low and slow works best. Too much flame, and you risk burning the bottom before the top is done.

Here’s how to use the Omnia Oven:
- Place the stainless steel base plate on a stovetop over high heat for approximately 3 minutes
- After preheating the base, place the food pan on top and heat on high for one minute to warm the air inside.
- Reduce the heat to low for cooking.
You can also use parchment paper or a silicone or foil liner to make cleanup easier.
What Recipes Work Well with the Omnia Oven?
While I am certainly no expert on this awesome little oven, I can say that some recipes just seem to be made for it!
Here are a few ideas to try that have worked perfectly for us:

I have also had really good luck with making boxed cake and muffin mixes for the kids.
However, my scratch chocolate cake didn’t turn out as well. Go figure!
In general, simple recipes work best. As well as recipes that work well with a low and slow approach.
If you enjoy experimenting, you’ll find tons of Omnia recipes on their website or in one of many Omnia cookbooks.
Our favourite cookbook to work with is Outdoor Cooking with Edye: Featuring the Omnia Oven.
Tips for Best Results When Using the Omnia Oven
After a few uses, I found a few small tweaks that made a big difference:

I really didn’t find the learning curve to be too steep.
However, you may need a few test meals to figure out your stove’s sweet spot.
And, if you use several different stoves (we use our camper stove as well as our outdoor Coleman stove), then you will need to figure out the sweet spot for both.
Which Omnia Oven Accessories are Worth Having?
While the Omnia Oven is pretty much ready to go right from the box, there are a few accessories that are definitely worth investing in.

The ones that I found to be the most useful, and I would recommend, include:
Of course, there are plenty of other accessories that you can purchase. A few of these are on my wishlist too (Hint, hint, John!).

And if all of these awesome accessories aren’t tempting enough, then you also have several colour options to choose from.
We purchased a teal lid and teal silicone liner to match our Teardrop Trailer’s colour scheme.

How to Keep Your Omnia Oven Clean
Cleaning your Omnia Oven is pretty easy, unless you had a baking disaster where everything burnt on (don’t ask)!
Just let your oven cool down, then wash it with warm, soapy water.
Avoid using metal utensils or abrasive pads that can scratch the surface.

Also, be careful with your silicone liner. I managed to poke a small hole in mine when testing a cake’s doneness with a toothpick. Oooops! Luckily, it does not leak!
And if you do happen to burn something, let the pan soak and then clean with a cream cleanser (like Vim) and a soft cloth.
Do not submerge your thermometer. I always take mine off before washing my lid.
Pros and Cons
Still on the fence about whether or not to invest in an Omnia Oven?
Here are some pros and cons that we considered before purchasing ours:
Pros
We LOVE our Omnia Oven, so the pros far outweigh the bad for us!

Cons
A few of these cons are just a result of the small learning curve needed for using the Omnia Oven.

How Much Does the Omnia Oven Cost and Where Can You Buy One?
The Omnia Oven usually costs between $75 and $100 CAD, depending on where you buy it.
Accessories are usually sold separately and can also be on the pricier side.
However, I have found a few bundles on Amazon that include the Camp Oven, Silicone Liner, Potholders, Baking Grid and a Storage Bag.

You can purchase Omnia Ovens and accessories from Omnia’s official site or through Amazon.
Some outdoor retailers like MEC and RV supply shops may also carry some Omnia products.
Who is the Omnia Oven Best for?
While the Omnia Oven is really good for anyone, I think that some people will get more use out of it than others.

If, like me, you prefer making everything fresh at camp or like baking bread and treats, you’ll love the Omnia Oven!
Is the Omnia Oven Worth It?
Yes! John and I both think that the Omnia Oven is worth having.
It’s a great piece of camping gear that adds flexibility and variety to our meals.
Especially if you’re short on space and want to cook more than just stovetop dinners, the Omnia Oven is a smart investment.

I love that I can bake birthday cakes for my kids while camping (we’ve done this more than once!), make fresh bread, or whip up cinnamon buns for breakfast (which always gets the kids out of bed early). I’ve even made pumpkin pie in the Omnia Oven for Thanksgiving dinner while camping in Algonquin Park!
The way I see it is just think of all those wonderful campground memories that can be tied to special meals!
FAQs

Yes, but it should always be used on a proper stove with good ventilation.
No, it doesn’t work on induction.
About 5–10 minutes, depending on your stove.
It’s designed for a steady stovetop flame, not direct campfire heat.
Roughly 10 inches across and holds about 2 litres — enough for 2–3 servings.

Final Thoughts
After using the Omnia Oven on several camping trips, I can honestly say it’s one of those products that has definitely earned its spot in our Teardrop Trailer.
The Omnia Oven doesn’t take up much space, it’s simple to use, and it lets me bake real meals instead of relying on just a stove or campfire.
While you do need to watch the heat, and the size limits what you can make, it is still an awesome thing to have with you at the campsite.
If you enjoy cooking outdoors or want more variety in your camp meals, I think the Omnia Oven is worth purchasing.
