5 Teardrop Travel Trailer Storage Ideas You Need to Try

Looking for some storage ideas for your tiny home on wheels? We have got you covered!

While we don’t live in our Teardrop trailer full-time, our family of four has been taking our rig on camping adventures for a couple of years now.

And while we love the ease of travelling with such a small trailer, we definitely had to learn how to maximize what little storage space there is.

That’s where a little creativity (and my love of storage containers) came in handy!

Want to learn more? Let’s jump right into the post!

Best Teardrop Travel Trailer Storage Ideas

As I mentioned above, you just need to be creative when it comes to finding storage solutions for small Teardrop trailers.

I recommend standing back and taking a good look at your rig when it’s empty. Sometimes awesome storage solutions are right under your nose!

1. Command Hooks

Using Command Hooks is one of my absolute favourite organization tips to pass on.

And for good reason! These little gems are inexpensive and can be used anywhere and everywhere.

And I don’t have to worry about putting nails into my thin camper walls.

Storage - Command Hooks on Bathroom Door

Command hooks are a great way to make use of the vertical space on your walls and doors to hang towels, jackets, dishcloths, keys, and anything else that may be cluttering up your trailer.

And let me tell you, Command hooks work! We have never had one fall off (even the ones we have in our wet bath).

We have even used Command strips to mount a wine glass rack in our cupboard! By hanging our acrylic wine glasses, we can actually put other cups underneath.

Not to mention the fact that I no longer have to worry about opening that cupboard door after we have been on the road.

Everything now stays in place!

2. Small Baskets and Bins

I LOVE storage bins. In fact, John thinks I am partially responsible for keeping Rubbermaid in business!

But you can find containers, baskets, or bins in almost any colour, material and size these days.

This makes it easy to find the perfect storage solution for your small space.

Baskets

We use a variety of plastic and woven baskets in our Teardrop.

These are perfect for holding smaller items and keeping them organized while on the road.

Storage - Basket for Shoes

We have one plastic basket that holds cans, dry foods, and snacks in our cupboard, as we don’t have a pantry in our trailer.

We also have a large plastic basket in the cupboard under our sink that holds our cleaning products, toilet paper, and tank treatments.

While the basket doesn’t fit as well as I’d like (the cupboard is actually a half-circle shape), it does prevent everything from spilling all over the place during travel.

Storage - Basket of cleaning supplies under sink

We also have a nice woven basket to hold our flip-flops that we wear around the campsite. It fits perfectly under our dinette, as well as in the cupboard during travel.

Bins

We have several clear acrylic bins that we use in a variety of spots in our Teardrop.

We have one that holds miscellaneous toiletries on our bathroom shelf, a couple that holds all of our food wraps and Ziplock bags in our kitchen cabinets, and another that organizes pop cans in our refrigerator.

Storage - Containers on shelf

The SUNNERSTA hanging containers from IKEA are another great space-saving storage solution that we use. They actually fit perfectly along the wood trim in our Teardrop.

John uses one above the bed to put his phone and reading glasses in. We have also seen many TAB owners hang them above the dinette for storage.

Storage - Over the Bed Container from IKEA

And speaking of IKEA, their Hร…LLBAR recycle bin was the perfect size to use as a garbage can in our Teardrop.

It fits just right on top of an awkward little space under our sink. We just use Command strips to velcro it in place!

Bags

We hang a laundry bag from a Command hook in our bathroom. It’s out of the way (unless someone needs to shower) and is the perfect place for dirty laundry.

3. Drawer Inserts & Dividers

Putting dividers in your drawers is one of the best ways to keep small things organized.

Cloth Drawer Inserts

We use cloth drawer inserts in the drawer under our bed, to organize our linens.

But one of my favourite storage hacks is to use these same drawer inserts to keep our ‘miscellaneous’ (aka Junk) drawer organized.

Storage - Under Bed Storage Using Dividers

Yes, even in our Teardrop trailer we still have to have one of those… Sigh.

And because they actually look really cute, the same drawer organizers are used on our Teradrop’s open shelves for the kids to store their phones, cords, AirPod cases, and other stuff.

Drawer Dividers

We were fortunate that our Teardrop already came with a drawer divider for our kitchen utensils.

It’s a perfect fit and even allows for the bigger and bulkier items to fit underneath.

Storage - Cutlery Insert

And while we haven’t quite figured out how to divide the drawer that we store our dishes in, for now, we are using non-slip shelf liners.

The shelf liners are actually working out really great too, which is why we haven’t gotten a move on with finding other solutions!

4. Airtight Food Storage Bins

This is one way that we definitely make use of the vertical space on the tiny open shelf in our galley.

It’s located near the rear or the Teardrop, so where the roof begins to slant, and is a bit awkward.

Storage - Food Storage Containers

We use it to store dry foods like coffee, tea, sugar, hot chocolate mix, cereal, pancake mix, and spices.

We purchased a set of tall and skinny airtight containers that come in four different heights. We just line up the containers on the shelf from tallest to shortest as the roof slants!

Works like a charm and we are able to put quite a bit on that shelf!

Storage - Food Safe Airtight Containers

I also use a few of the smaller containers for my laundry pods, and other cleaning supplies under my sink.

5. Large Storage Totes

While these large totes never come inside our trailer, we keep them in our tow vehicle for additional storage.

Because our Teardrop does not have a huge ‘basement’ or a pass-through, a lot of our outside gear (like our Coleman Propane Stove, lanterns, clotheslines, hammock, etc) needs to be stored elsewhere.

Storage - 2 heavy duty storage totes

We have two totes that contain all of our outdoor gear (one for an outdoor kitchen setup and one for miscellaneous items).

These ‘take along’ bins go from a shelf in our garage, straight into our tow vehicle for every trip, and then back to the shelf. They are always packed and ready to go.
